4 Tips to Avoid Neck Problems

I have seen many people who sit with the same posture for long periods of time or have bad posture when they work or do their other activities. Do you know that it puts stress on your neck muscles which can also cause pain or numbness in your neck, shoulders, arms hand and head? Are you wondering how the neck affects the hands or can cause headaches, this is because our body systems are interconnected. Sometimes dysfunction in one place can cause problems in another due to the same nerve distributions or circulation or the same structural development etc. You can avoid these problems with some precautions. Through this blog, I am going to tell you some tips to avoid neck or cervical problems and the importance of these tips.

Correct posture while sitting

Correct posture can prevent many dysfunctions. There are some postural tips to prevent some muscular problems including neck problems.

·        Back supported

·        Straight spine

·        Knees slightly lower than hips or at the same level

Bad sitting posture

Good sitting posture

·

Prolonged Sitting

Prolonged posture, even correct postures, can cause the following problems

·        Discomfort

·        Put pressure on the muscles.

·        A tingling sensation or numbness due to pressure on the nerves

·        Blood circulation disturbance

·        Headache

If you don't feel anything uncomfortable with prolonged or bad posture, it doesn't necessarily mean it's not harming you. Sometimes a person is unaware of what is going wrong internally and this leads to muscular problems after some months or years. You all know that prevention is better than cure.

Tip for office workers

If you are an office worker and have to work for a long time with the same neck posture, move your neck in a different direction every 30 minutes to avoid neck problems. For example, if you are constantly working at a computer screen, you can turn your neck to the right, hold this position for 5 to 10 seconds, repeat it at least 3 times, and then do the same to the left. There are many stretching exercises and techniques that you can also easily perform at work, but these should be guided by a health professional or physiotherapist after assessment.

Ideal position for using a mobile phone

Excessive bending of the neck forward while using the phone can lead to neck problems so here is the ideal position to use the phone but always keep in mind that excess of everything is bad. This does not mean that this is an ideal position so you can use the phone with this position for a long time.

How to use a mobile phone while sitting?

I have mentioned that you can perform some exercises or techniques but there are many exercises, mobilization techniques, manipulation techniques and many more techniques that people cannot perform on their own. These can only be performed by a skilled health professional or physiotherapist or require the assistance of a skilled professional. It is important for everyone to follow good lifestyle habits to stay healthy. If you are not feeling comfortable, consult a relevant health professional. For example, if you have neck or cervical problems and medications are not giving you relief, you can consult a skilled physiotherapist. Skilled physiotherapists know the exercises and have magical hands to apply mobilization and manipulation techniques on your body to bring you relief.
